EL SONAMBULISTA
I could hook you up to scientific machines
and I could make a graph of your dream frequencies
I could map out the path that you tread when you're asleep
but I could never guess at the secrets that you keep
Sleepwaltz sweetheart
ragtime big time inside of my mind
slowdance romance
let's you and I tango in rewind
Yours is a haunted wood, that much is understood
and branches fall just because they're in the mood
but I'll throw away my tools and my methods and my compass
cuz I don't really care if I get lost
Sleepwaltz sweetheart
ragtime big time inside of my mind
slowdance romance
let's you and I tango in rewind
Sonambulista
you're on my list of
all my favorite things to do
when I am fast asleep
Sonambulator
sooner or later
we'll have to say goodbye
and the alarm clocks will weep

Origami Bird

ORIGAMI BIRD
Whoever drew my body
was coloring outside the lines
but sometimes I can't help
dressing to the nines
fancy hats and plumes of smoke
I build my queendom out of twine
and bicycle spokes
Once I knew a boy
he tried to erase me
he tried to make me over
like he was the Avon lady
but I'm a resourceful girl
I'm an origami bird
and my wings may be torn
but my feet still work
Sometimes people tell me
hey, not bad for a lady
I think it's kind of funny
that they should mistake me
for someone who knows
the rules of etiquette
if I'd known this was a contest
I surely would have quit

The Wrong Song

THE WRONG SONG
A twist in the plot, a sleight of hand
spin you around, start over again
a scent in the air, the faintest trace
of a strange affair in a familiar place
I don't know what it is that you want me to say
I don't know why I am dressed this way
I don't know why we have cocktails in hand
when we're standing in quicksand
To open that door's like turning a page
a trick of the light and you're center stage
but you forgot your lines, you forgot your name
you can't remember why you even came
I don't know what it is that you want me to say
I don't know why I am dressed this way
I don't know why we have cocktails in hand
when we're standing in quicksand
Just when you think
you know what's going on
when you know all the words
but they're playing the wrong song
when the house lights go up
and the scenery comes down
when all you held as true
comes crashing down to the ground
It's probably time to make your escape
it's probably time for you to find your way
It looks like your life so it probably is
but it feels like something is slightly amiss
like someone crept into your home as you dreamed
and changed all the locks but then left you the keys
I don't know what it is that you want me to say
I don't know why I am dressed this way
I don't know why we have cocktails in hand
when we're standing in quicksand
You know all the rules, you can play that game
but if you're not really you it just isn't the same
so you wake in the dark just to trip over things
an exultation of larks, minus the wings
I don't know what it is that you want me to say
I don't know why I am dressed this way
I don't know why we have cocktails in hand
when we're standing in quicksand
Just when you think
you know what's going on
when you know all the words
but they're playing the wrong song
when the house lights go up
and the scenery comes down
when all you held as true
comes crashing down to the ground
It's probably time to make your escape
it's probably time for you to find your way
back out of the woods....

Reignite

REIGNITE
I woke up drowning in light
I could not see it was shining so bright
I wondered if during the night
did all the love in the world finally ignite
I used my hands instead
of my eyes to see as I climbed out of bed
I could feel the color red
peeling off the door to which I had been led
I stepped out that door
and started to fall
it felt like walking
down an endless hall
I could not remember what it was
I was trying to forget
Something that went unsaid
something undone or some kind of regret
but I knew that I would not come to harm
cuz I knew I would land in my mother's arms

One Continuous Bend

ONE CONTINUOUS BEND
So you're walking down this road
the road that never ends
and all you can see before you
is one continuous bend
and you don't know what you'll find
a catastrophe or a friend
when you finally hitch a ride
and you're on the move again
But that's okay
because you're alright
this ride is golden
he's going to drive
all through the night
And you don't know where you're going
you've got no special place in mind
as long as the wheels keep rolling
you'll always be doing fine
and sometimes the scenery
is pleasant to the eye
and sometimes the scenery
is like a well run dry
But that's okay
because you're alright
this ride is golden
he's going to drive
all through the night
You've got twigs in your hair
a telltale sign of where you slept
and your suitcase couldn't hold
all the secrets that you've kept
and sometimes you wonder
about the folks back home
and sometimes you wonder
where you'll lay down your weary bones
But that's okay
because you're alright
this ride is golden
he's going to drive
all through the night

Humdrum Delirium

HUMDRUM DELIRIUM
The black ink of night
spilled over the day
soaking everything
with darkness
where do you go
when you dream?
who do you miss?
I work in my garden
by the light of the moon
growing lullabies for you
your breath on your pillow
like a butterfly kiss
and my heart is filled
with a broken bliss
The sweet perfume
of lunatics in bloom
keeps me company
in the gloom
I go underground
to keep you safe and sound
from humdrum delirium
Words in search
of a melody
like a ghost without a body
but before the morning comes
I will harvest you a song

Boombox

BOOMBOX
Goodness gracious golly gee
I'm the luckiest girl that could ever be
cuz I love you and you love me
husband and wife sitting in a tree
The birds and the bees they form a crown
around our hearts that beat so loud
we both have a boombox in our chests
shakes the foundation of our nest
The neighbors complain
about all the light
that comes pouring out of us
day and night
To have and to hold you're solid gold
wanna be with you till I'm really old
for better or worse you are my wealth
you are my sickness, you are my health
The neighbors complain
about all the light
that comes pouring out of us
day and night
Will you marry me
again when we are 93
I want to marry you
all the time you know it's true
I do
you know I do, you know I do!
Till death do not us part
we can dance around out in the yard
wearing nothing but our skeletons
and if we get bored we can haunt our next of kin
Will you marry me
when we're 93?

Exit 34

|

EXIT 34
We're demented and dark
we're beautiful and proud
we live far away from the outskirts of town
far away from the metropolis
far away from the bustle and hiss
we're dripping with jewels
that cling to us like thieves
like mothers afraid
that we will leave
the forest in which we were born
the forest off exit 34
we throw a good party
we know how to entertain
and everyone's invited
it's a tradition we maintain
we'll greet you with a smile or a shotgun
it depends on what you deserve
but one thing's for certain
you'll never get bored
if you take exit 34
so take off your hat and unleash your tail
cuz supper is waiting and so is the ale
the midgets are impatient for you to see
their latest interpretation of a tragedy
and the clowns are hiding out in the barn
afraid of a city boy's charm
but you can't fool me cuz you weren't born
off exit 34

Everybody Loves You
04:31
|
|||
EVERYBODY LOVES YOU
It's not that I don't love you so
It's just that it's time
for you to go
It's not that I don't care about you anymore
It's not that I don't long to be your lazy whore
Our love is blind
It's deaf and it's dumb
Too much of a good thing
Will only make you numb
I know that if you stay
I can't resist
The way you make me feel
your taste on my lips
Everybody loves you
You know that they really do
You don't need me
I wish that I didn't need you
